Wild play as Philip Rivers slings INT, recovers ensuing fumble (Shutdown Corner)

Sometimes genius arises from insanity. Sometimes the universe aligns itself in your favor. Sometimes a dumb move turns out all right after all. Early in the second quarter of their game against the Miami Dolphins, the San Diego Chargers and Philip Rivers were set up near midfield. Rivers decided to go big, airing out a pass into double-double coverage (four Dolphins, two Chargers). Safety Reshad Jones pulled down the ball, but the insanity was only just beginning: **CRAZY PLAY ALERT** Best way to make up for throwing an INT? By recovering the fumble on your INT. Huh? #MIAvsSD https://t.co/Gpw7EtZrHR — NFL (@NFL) December 20, 2015 Jones took off upfield, but soon after lost the ball. Who ended up with it? Why, Rivers himself, of course. The ball traveled 100 yards or so in the air and then back on the ground, but the net gain was minus-three yards. It might have been the most bizarre play of the season, but when you're talking about a game with absolutely zero importance in the grander scheme of things, we all take what we can get. ____ Jay Busbee is a writer for Yahoo Sports and the author of EARNHARDT NATION .
