Week 8 might go down as one of the worst in recent NFL memory in terms of injuries. In addition to Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell being ruled out with a knee injury and San Francisco 49ers running back Reggie Bush slipping and hurting his knee , several other big-name players went down. Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. cut up the field late in third quarter against the San Diego Chargers and went down after a 17-yard gain. Immediately, Smith grabbed and pointed to his right leg, and the training staff was testing him in the area that's consistent with Achilles injuries. Smith was listed as doubtful to return to the game (with a foot injury) after a five-catch, 82-yard game in which he moved into 10th all-time on the receiving yards list, ahead of Hall of Famer Cris Carter. Smith entered the game with broken bones in his back and having suffered a midweek knee injury during practice. Is Smith's career over? In August, he announced this would be his final season, although recent reports have suggested he might have been considering playing in 2016. Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen, one of the league's leading receivers, left the same game with a shoulder injury and was ruled out. Teammate Ladarius Green also left the game with an ankle injury that looked to be serious. Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte, who has been the subject of trade rumors, left the game against the Minnesota Vikings with a knee injury. The extent of the injury is not yet known. New Orleans Saints running back Khiry Robinson suffered a scary-looking leg injury early against the New York Giants, and the training staff used an air cast immediately. - - - - - - - Eric Edholm is a writer for Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports.
