Chargers cut former first-rounder English (The SportsXchange)

Outside linebacker Larry English was released by the San Diego Chargers ahead of the team opening training camp on Wednesday. A former first-round pick in 2009, English's development was hampered by multiple injuries through his first five NFL seasons as he has played in only 52 games while producing 82 tackles and 11 sacks. While former general manager A.J. Smith stuck by English, new GM Tom Telesco and coach Mike McCoy did not see enough last season and over the offseason to convince them to bring English to training camp this year. The Chargers are excited about the potential of Melvin Ingram, and added Jeremiah Attaochu during the second round of May's draft.
