Nike drops boxer Manny Pacquiao after anti-gay comments (Reuters)

(Repeats to additional subscribers, no change to text) Feb 18 (Reuters) - Nike Inc, the world's largest sportswear maker, said it had ended its contract with Manny Pacquiao after the Filipino boxer described gays as "worse than animals". "We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent," a Nike spokesperson said in an e-mailed statement, adding that the company no longer has a relationship with the boxer. Nike's decision comes a day after an online petition was launched urging the company to stop Pacquiao endorsing its products.

Privacy vs security at heart of Apple phone decrypt order (Reuters)

A court order demanding that Apple Inc help the U.S. government unlock the encrypted iPhone of one of the San Bernardino shooters is shaping up as a crucial test case of how far the government can go in forcing technology companies to help security and intelligence investigations. Law enforcement agencies have for years faced off against tech firms and privacy advocates over their ability to monitor digital communications, and the government to date has largely lost the battle. A federal judge in Los Angeles on Tuesday ordered Apple to provide "reasonable technical assistance" to investigators seeking to read the data on an iPhone 5C that had been used by Rizwan Farook, who along with his wife, Tashfeen Malik, carried out the shootings.

Larson moves to backup after crash in Daytona 500 practice (The Associated Press)

Kyle Larson switched to a backup car after being involved in a crash during Daytona 500 practice Wednesday. Larson was involved in a multi-car accident in the second practice session, a pileup that occurred after Ty Dillion cracked an oil cooler between Turns 1 and 2 at Daytona International Speedway. Dillon spewed oil on the track and on other drivers' windshields, and as cars behind him tried to slow, two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip ran into the back of Ryan Newman.

The Great Canadian Ratings Report: NBA all-star weekend produces big ratings in Canada (Eh Game)

Maybe that all-star game thing can help the Toronto Raptors. With Toronto hosting the first NBA all-star game outside the United States last weekend, television ratings went way beyond expectations. The Saturday night competitions almost broke the million mark on TSN and Sportsnet One, bringing in an audience 377 per cent higher than the one that witnessed last year's broadcast. The game itself was the second most-watched in Canadian history on Sunday, falling just short of what Michael Jordan drew in his return to the game in 1996. Friday's Rising Stars Challenge was 182 per cent above the 2015 version. Overall, 3.1 million viewers watched some or all of the game and 2.6 million the Saturday night competition. Canada even outperformed the U.S., where TNT saw its audience grow 6 per cent to 7.6 million. In fact, the NBA dominated the weekend ratings in the Great White North. And when was the last time that happened? Hint: never. It's amazing how much more popular an event becomes when your country or your city is hosting it. But a weekend full of big ratings isn't the only thing the NBA and its broadcasters got out of this. No doubt the two networks who own a chunk of the team are hoping the a ll-star euphoria rubs off on the Raptors, who needed a little euphoria spread their way.

EXCLUSIVE - Amazon expanding deliveries by its 'on-demand' drivers (Reuters)

By Mari Saito SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is quietly inviting drivers for its new "on-demand" delivery service to handle its standard packages, as the online retailer known for low prices and razor-thin profit margins looks to speed up delivery times and tamp down its growing multi-billion dollar logistics bill. Amazon outlined details of its latest plan over the last few weeks in an email to contract drivers who deliver parcels for Amazon Flex, a program launched last year to handle speedy deliveries of common household goods to customers using Prime Now, a mobile app that comes with Amazon's popular $99-a-year Prime membership. If the gambit works, industry analysts said it could help Amazon contain its shipping costs, which grew more than 18 percent to $11.5 billion last year.

Video: How does Daytona affect Tony Stewart's legacy? (From The Marbles)

Tony Stewart will likely finish his career 0-17 in the Daytona 500. But the three-time Sprint Cup Series champion has won every other NASCAR race at Daytona and has 48 career Sprint Cup Series wins. Is he a NASCAR Hall of Famer? Yahoo Sports' Jay Busbee and Jay Hart debate the topic. Stewart is missing the 2016 Daytona 500 and out indefinitely because of a fractured vertebra suffered while driving a sand buggy in late January. He's being replaced in the No. 14 car for the race by Brian Vickers, who could also replace Stewart in some races later in the spring before Stewart returns. 2016 is Stewart's last Sprint Cup season as Clint Bowyer is set to take over his No. 14 car in 2017. Stewart's Daytona 500 career has included some near wins. Here's a breakdown of all 17 of his Daytona 500s. You'll have to watch the video to see what Jay and Jay think, but in my book, Stewart is surefire first-ballot Hall of Fame driver. - - - - - - - Nick Bromberg is the editor of From The Marbles on Yahoo Sports. Donald Cerrone on his title loss, Reebok fine and refusing to fall in line (Cagewriter)

The last week of training is always the worst for Donald Cerrone. It’s the dragging-on of it all, the waiting. For a guy who once fought six times in less than a year, the idea of sitting around and waiting for a fight is unnerving. So he occupies himself like any martial artist should, catching matinee showings of "Enter the Dragon," starring Bruce Lee, in between training sessions. The fan favorite will face Alex Oliveira in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Just weeks ago, Cerrone found himself in his very first UFC title fight against lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. Cerrone lost the fight at 1:06 of the first round – just his fourth UFC loss in 19 fights. It was his first with UFC gold on the line, and it admittedly stung. “Yeah, that night sucked,” Cerrone admitted to Yahoo Sports. “Sure, you can dwell on it, and be pissed off. But you just choke it up, get back on, and do it again.” Cerrone, 32, is infamous for his no-frills approach to fighting, and lack of excuse making. And the loss to dos Anjos highlights these traits perfectly. He prefers fighting as often as possible, but Cerrone had to wait almost seven months before his fight with dos Anjos. Yet, despite this fact, and the fact Cerrone chose to not use an IV to rehydrate even with an official exemption – “I just didn’t want anyone to say I’m cheating., so, [expletive] it” – he's not offering many excuses for his disappointing performance.

Astronomers have spotted a black hole that’s 21 billion times more massive than the Sun (Digital Trends)

A new photograph of galaxy NGC 4889 may look peaceful from such a great distance, but it’s actually home to one of the biggest black holes that astronomers have ever identified. The Hubble Space Telescope allowed scientists to capture photos of the galaxy, located in the Coma Cluster about 300 million light-years away. The supermassive black hole hidden away in NGC 4889 breaks all kinds of records, even though it is currently classified as dormant. So how big is it, exactly? Well, according to our best estimates, the supermassive black hole is roughly 21 billion times the size of the Sun, and its event horizon (an area so dense and powerful that light can’t escape its gravity) measures 130 billion kilometers in diameter. That’s about 15 times the diameter of Neptune’s orbit around the Sun, according to scientists at the Hubble Space Telescope. At one point, the black hole was fueling itself on a process called hot accretion. Space stuff like gases, dust, and galactic debris fell towards the black hole and created an accretion disk. Then that spinning disk of space junk, accelerated by the strong gravitational pull of the largest known black hole, emitted huge jets of energy out into the galaxy. Related: Scientists just saw light coming from around a black hole for the first time During that active period, NGC 4889 would have classified as a quasar (quasi-stellar radio source) thanks to the black hole’s emissions of up to a thousand times more energy than our Milky Way galaxy. But the black hole is now in dormant mode because there isn’t any more sustenance stored in the orbiting accretion disk. “The accretion disk sustained the supermassive black hole’s appetite until the nearby supply of galactic material was exhausted. Now, napping quietly as it waits for its next celestial snack, the supermassive black hole is dormant”, says the Hubble Space Telescope website. Of course, the announcement posted with new photos of the NGC 4889 galaxy is quick to point out that the pictures don’t exactly capture the likeness of the supermassive black hole. It is impossible to observe a black hole directly, but scientists have been able to identify the implied presence of a black hole by analyzing the way celestial objects interact with some invisible force. For this particular black hole in the NGC 4889 galaxy, scientists used instruments on the Keck II Observatory and the Gemini North Telescope to measure the velocity of stars moving around the center point of the galaxy. The stars’ specific velocities re what allowed scientists to calculate the incredible size of NGC 4889’s black hole.

The skinny: The defensive line group, especially at tackle, is exceptionally deep. So deep, in fact, that gifted but troubled Ole Miss DL Robert Nkemdiche didn’t land in our top 31 projected picks. [ Follow Yahoo Sports draft expert Eric Edholm on Facebook and Twitter ] The combine will be the first step to rehab the image of Nkemdiche, who faces character concerns from NFL teams after he reportedly fell from a hotel window under suspicious circumstances. If he answers NFL evaluators’ questions to their satisfaction, he easily could land in the top 20 picks again. For now here’s a first guess — pre-free agency — at how things could look in Round 1: 1. Tennessee Titans — Ole Miss OT Laremy Tunsil There might not be a perfect marriage of player, value and need for the Titans here, but this pick makes a lot of sense, even with Tennessee insisting there’s a market for the top pick. Mike Mularkey-coached teams have used high draft picks on offensive linemen in the past (Kendall Simmons, 2002; Sam Baker, 2008) and could do so here to help better insulate Marcus Mariota. That has to be the priority of the organization after watching Mariota come in and out of games as a rookie after suffering too many hits.

NFL-National Football League roundup (Reuters)

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last month to clean up an old injury, says the knee "feels great." Rodgers, 32, has spent the past week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, playing with Wisconsin PGA pro Jerry Kelly. "It was just good to be out there walking normally," Rodgers said, via USA TODAY Sports. It's nice to not have any clunking around or anything, so it was good." Rodgers said he had a scope performed on his knee soon after Green Bay's 26-20 overtime loss on Jan. 16 to the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC divisional playoffs.

Raiders secure return to Oakland for 2016 season (AFP)

After weeks of uncertainty, the Oakland Raiders have secured a return to their home stadium for the 2016 NFL season, but a long-term solution in a new venue remains elusive. Raiders owner Mark Davis signed a one-year lease extension to play at O.co Coliseum, the team's home since moving back to the San Francisco bay area from Los Angeles in 1995. The deal includes two option years for the Raiders that could tie the club to the 56,000-seat venue, which was built in 1966 and is the only stadium that is shared by NFL and Major League Baseball clubs.

Raiders agree to extension to remain at Oakland Coliseum (The Associated Press)

Four weeks after being stymied in their effort to move to Los Angeles, the Raiders agreed to a one-year extension lease extension to remain at the Oakland Coliseum on Thursday. Raiders owner Mark Davis had been mulling multiple options to move his team since being passed over by the NFL's other owners to relocate the Raiders to Southern California. The St. Louis Rams were approved to move to Los Angeles in January, while the San Diego Chargers have an option to join the Rams.

Oakland Raiders return to O.co Coliseum for at least 2016 (Shutdown Corner)

Remember all the emotion at the final home games for the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers last season? Get ready to do it all again in 2016. The Chargers announced they're staying in San Diego for the 2016 season, and the Raiders came to an agreement on Thursday to play at least one more year at O.co Coliseum, the team announced . The Raiders said there are also two years of team options at O.co Coliseum.  That the Raiders are staying in Oakland at least one more season is not a huge surprise. After the Raiders were the odd team out in the Los Angeles sweepstakes, they needed some place to play. Oakland's stadium is probably the worst in the NFL, but it'll do for another year while the Raiders figure things out. The Raiders were squeezed out of the L.A. plans, at least for now. The Rams relocated to Los Angeles, and the Chargers have the option of joining them. The Chargers have a year to figure it out. If they pass, the Raiders have the option to join the Rams in Inglewood. It's not ideal for the Raiders, but they don't have a great option at the moment. Oakland hasn't delivered a great stadium plan. San Antonio and Las Vegas seem more like leverage than realistic options. San Diego has been suggested if the Chargers leave, but if San Diego won't build a stadium to keep the Chargers, why would they build one to lure the Raiders? So the Raiders are left without an idea where they'll be playing a few years from now. But at least we know where they're playing next season. For all the talk of how the Raiders and Chargers were saying goodbye to their cities, they'll return for at least another year. And it'll feel the exact same way, with fans in each city hoping the team stays but having no idea if it will actually do so. We thought for a while there would be a massive shift, with three of the 32 NFL franchises moving. Only one did, for now anyway. - - - - - - - Frank Schwab is the editor of Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? Email him at shutdown.corner@yahoo.com or follow him on Twitter! L.A. relocation story reminder of Jerry Jones' power among owners (Shutdown Corner)

If you ever wondered who the NFL's most powerful owner is, ESPN.com's behind-the-scenes story about the league's relocation to Los Angeles is a good place to start. The answer, if you didn't know it already, is that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likely finishes first in the owner power rankings. The ESPN report makes it clear that he was the most influential of the league's owners in making sure Rams owner Stan Kroenke's plan to move to Inglewood was the winner, even though that was up in the air until the last minute. The entire story, written by Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta, is worth your time if you care about what happens among the power brokers in the NFL. It's a complex story of alliances, double-crosses, hurt feelings and suspicions of league favoritism. It paints Kroenke as the aggressor in the L.A. story, and San Diego Chargers CEO Dean Spanos as the league loyalist who got the short end of the stick. And Jones, it appears, had a huge say in steering the league toward the Inglewood plan that Kroenke had. The story places the "new money" owners, led by Jones, on the side of the Inglewood plan and Kroenke. The "old money" owners wanted Carson, and Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson lobbied for that, going as far as flying to meet with some owners privately to garner support. Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger was brought in to run the Carson project, after Richardson met and talked with him a few times. The owners thought Iger's involvement might offset Kroenke's money, the ESPN story said. Meanwhile, Jones was on the side of the Inglewood project and worked the phones with owners to pitch the idea of the Rams and Chargers sharing a stadium there. That would place the Chargers as the Rams' tenants, basically. Jones encouraged Kroenke to pledge to allow a partner in the new stadium, which he did, ESPN said.

NFL Power Rankings: The way-too-early 2016 edition (Shutdown Corner)

It's probably not fair to say the Denver Broncos' championship window was going to close, win or lose, after Super Bowl 50. But let's say that it was probably a good idea to beat the Carolina Panthers, just in case.  This will be a tricky offseason for Broncos general manager John Elway. He was very aggressive in trying to win a title before Peyton Manning retired. Mission accomplished. But making another run next season will be a challenge. The Broncos have a ton of questions to answer this offseason. Las Vegas oddsmakers don't have a ton of faith in the Broncos repeating. There were 11 teams with better odds to win Super Bowl LI than Denver (20-to-1) at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, as of Monday. All-world pass rusher and free agent-to-be Von Miller will get the franchise tag, but that will eat up a lot of cap room. We don't know who the quarterback will be — it's probably going to be Brock Osweiler, but he was inconsistent and will get a huge pay bump. And if he hits free agency there's no guarantee he'll be back. There are a few teams who are desperate at quarterback. If Osweiler escapes and Manning retires as expected, things might get really scary in Denver.

Reports: Bills' LeSean McCoy assaulted off-duty police officers (Shutdown Corner)

According to two reports out of Philadelphia, Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy and former NFL back Curtis Brinkley are being investigated after an incident with off-duty police officers. CSNPhiily.com, which got a look at the police report , says McCoy and Brinkley were at Recess Lounge at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday when they got into an altercation with three off-duty officers that began "over the purchase of champagne." Brinkley grabbed the bottle, setting things off between the men. A law enforcement official told CSNPhilly.com that two of the officers suffered broken ribs; television station WPVI reported those men had to be hospitalized for their injuries. Neither McCoy nor Brinkley were arrested, but both men are being investigated. McCoy, a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, was traded to the Bills last year. Brinkley played for the San Diego Chargers from 2009-2012, appearing in 23 games.

Three most likely picks for Broncos' 2016 season-opening opponent (Shutdown Corner)

Has it sunk in yet for you that Sunday night featured the last real NFL game until September? You can have your preseason, the methadone of football. We like the real deal. Which is why we already are thinking about next season’s opener. It has become traditional for the defending champions to host the Thursday night Week 1 opener in their building, and we have no reason to think that the Denver Broncos — fresh off their Super Bowl 50 title — won’t be afforded that privilege. Because we already know their home opponents, it’s easy to start thinking who they might face in that game. We have some pretty obvious possibilities. First, the process of elimination. The Broncos face four teams — the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons — with absolutely zero shot of earning that opening slot. The Kansas City Chiefs are a good team that gave the Broncos fits at times this season, and they in theory have a whisper of a chance, but we think there are three more clear-cut choices. They are: Carolina Panthers — Remember them? We could have a Super Bowl 50 reprise in the opener, and it would allow Cam Newton another chance to face a Broncos defense that largely should remain intact and that befuddled him and his Panthers teammates on Sunday. There’s no mystery with this one, straight heat down the middle, and it would be a perfectly good choice. We have gone a few years between non-conference opponents facing each other in the opener, though, which makes us think this might not be the favorite. New England Patriots — And you remember them. Yes, no matter whether Peyton Manning returns to play football in 2016, it almost certainly won’t be Manning vs. Tom Brady for (roughly) the 78th time. But there still is a healthy rivalry between these teams, and this would net some boffo ratings between what could be the two early favorites in the AFC, depending on who the Broncos’ QB is. Brady was mauled in the AFC championship, and Denver has not been the kindest place for him to play. Indianapolis Colts — We can envision a Manning tribute here. It’s pretty easy, with his former team and some of his former teammates in the house. Archie and Olivia will be in a luxury box, and maybe Cooper shows up too. Plus, it’s a pretty good game on paper, and we all know the Colts are excellent on paper. The Colts beat the Broncos the past two times, last season in Indianapolis and two years ago in the playoffs in Denver. This would be a great stage for Andrew Luck to reintroduce himself to America. If Manning is done for good, this one is almost too obvious. - - - - - - - Eric Edholm is a writer for Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports. Have a tip? If this was it for Peyton Manning, he will be going out in style (Shutdown Corner)

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Peyton Manning got up in front of the Denver Broncos on Saturday night, on the eve of Super Bowl 50. He said his goodbyes. He didn’t explicitly say he was retiring. But he probably didn’t need to. He made some jokes as he spoke, because that’s who Manning is, and Manning said he needed to crack jokes so he could hold it together. He joked that he thought Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware, Chris Harris and Aqib Talib would all win a share of the Super Bowl 50 MVP, because he wanted to see them all share the car given to the winner.

Roger Goodell doesn't give great explanation for lack of PSI data (Shutdown Corner)

SAN FRANCISCO — It still doesn't make much sense why tne NFL, which spent all last offseason acting like PSI levels in football was a pillar to the integrity of the game, didn't seem to care much about it during this season. Goodell was asked about the league's startling admission that it didn't keep any data on football inflation at his annual press conference on the Friday before the Super Bowl. The league announced new policies and procedures to make sure footballs were legally inflated, after the long and overblown deflate-gate controversy with the New England Patriots. Goodell danced around giving a reason for the incredible discrepancy between the NFL's actions last offseason over PSI and its general malaise over the issue during this season. Goodell reiterated that the NFL made limited spot checks and found no violations. "The intent of what we were doing was not a research project," Goodell said. "It was to make sure our policies were followed." Goodell often talks about transparency, but there was almost none throughout this whole issue. [ Score great deals for Super Bowl 50 tickets at SeatGeek ] "We don't disclose all the specifics on that because it's meant as a deterrent," Goodell said. "If you tell everybody how many times you're checking and which games you're checking, it's not much of a deterrent. It's a deterrent when they think they may be checked." Considering the disagreements about the science of how balls can naturally deflate in certain weather conditions, it's surprising the NFL wouldn't want to research something that it took so seriously last offseason. The NFL's heavy-handed reaction to deflate-gate was brought up again with comparisons to how the league handled Al Jazeera's report that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's wife had human growth hormone sent to her, compared to the way it attacked New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Goodell was asked why the league doesn't seem to be pursuing the allegations against Manning with the same public gusto it had for deflate-gate, and Goodell replied, "We are." "We take every allegation of violations of our policies and procedures, particularly when it relates to safety, very seriously," Goodell said. "When these allegations first came up we immediately began our own investigation. We were making sure we were working with the other sports involved, with WADA, the World Anti-Doping Association, to make sure we were getting all the information." The league is investigating the Manning allegations, but Goodell said there is no independent investigation ongoing by the league. He said the league is continuing to work with the other sports leagues involved and WADA on the allegations. "If we feel that [an independent investigation] is necessary at some point, we may do that. At this point we don’t," Goodell said. Goodell wouldn't discuss the NFL's appeal of a federal judge's ruling vacating Brady's four-game suspension, but he said the appeal is still ongoing. "I’m not focused on it right now and I won’t speculate on what we’ll do based on the outcome," Goodell said.

No starting spot anymore, but Brock Osweiler enjoys Super Bowl 50 (Shutdown Corner)

SAN JOSE — A play here, a play there, and Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler might have been sitting up at the No. 6 podium right in the middle of the SAP Center on Super Bowl Opening Night. Instead, Peyton Manning spoke to a group that never seemed to shrink to less than 50 media members at the middle podium. Osweiler stood maybe 100 feet away, talking to the few folks interested in his fairly crazy season. “I wouldn’t say strange, but I’d say this season has taken a lot of turns that maybe a normal season doesn’t,” said Osweiler, who was on the cover of Sports Illustrated about three months ago. Osweiler was one of the NFL’s hottest stars of the season. He took over for Manning after Manning suffered a bad foot injury. Osweiler was up and down in his seven starts but helped the Broncos pull off some enormous wins, including overtime wins against New England and Cincinnati, the second and third seeds in the AFC. The Broncos got the No. 1 seed in the AFC. They won the AFC championship game at home, beating the New England Patriots by two points. Without Osweiler’s contributions, the Broncos might not be in Super Bowl 50. But right before the playoffs started, Osweiler had his job taken away. Broncos coach Gary Kubiak pulled Osweiler in a Week 17 game against the San Diego Chargers as the offense struggled. Manning went in, led a win, was given the job for the playoffs and here they are in the Bay Area. Manning is one of the major stories of the Super Bowl. It’s impossible to believe that this week Osweiler won’t think about what might have been, as he helps simulate Cam Newton on Denver's scout team, even if he said that hasn’t crossed his mind. But give Osweiler a lot of credit for how he has handled this odd situation, because he has been nothing but supportive of his teammates. “I wouldn’t say disappointing is the word. But certainly as a competitor, a quarterback, as a guy who wants to be competing with his teammates he loves, it’s hard to sit back and not play,” Osweiler said about not starting this week. “But as long as this football team wins games, and if we win Sunday, there’s going to be nobody happier than myself. “It’s hard to sit back and not be out there competing with your teammates, but this is the ultimate team game and as long as we win, I’m happy.” In some ways the respect for Osweiler has grown in the Broncos locker room because of how he handled the situation. He never complained, never said anything negative and has been supportive of his team even as he sits and watches. It’s obvious to say the Broncos wouldn’t be at the Super Bowl without Osweiler’s contributions on the field when he was starting quarterback. It’s also fair to say the Broncos might not be in the Super Bowl if Osweiler hadn’t handled a really sensitive and difficult situation when he was benched. He never was a distraction.  “He’s so mature,” Broncos tight end Owen Daniels said. “He’s a super positive guy. I think he did a great job playing his role, and I’m sure he wanted to keep playing and be the guy because you expect that out of a great competitor, but he was super mature about everything. Both guys were. It was awesome.” Osweiler said he and Manning never had any “special conversations” after Kubiak made the move, but they both went on like nothing happened, with Osweiler taking back the role of helping the starter whenever he needed it. “I was there to support him, and he was there to support me when I was playing,” Osweiler said. Osweiler said he has a great working relationship with Manning and a great relationship off the field. He said he won’t speculate on Manning’s future, but it matters for him. Osweiler will be a free agent after this season, and he’ll have options. His seven starts produced 1,967 yards and an 86.4 rating. He was a second-round pick a few years ago, he has proven now he’s not overwhelmed by being an NFL starter, and the way he has handled having Manning take back the starting spot won’t work against him as teams consider him in free agency. But Osweiler said he hasn’t thought about his next move. “When that bridge comes, we’ll cross it at that time, but right now I’m 100 percent focused on the Super Bowl,” Osweiler didn’t want to talk about whether he’d prefer to return to the Broncos, where he’d presumably take over as the starter next season. “We’ll cross the bridge when it comes up,” Osweiler said. Osweiler has been to a Super Bowl before, two seasons ago, but that was truly as the backup. He rode the bench all season as Manning won an MVP trophy. When asked how this Super Bowl was different for him, it was clear he was proud of his contributions to get the Broncos to Super Bowl 50, as he should be.  “It feels a little different,” Osweiler said. “I feel like I was able to contribute and help my team for a couple months.” As usual on Opening Night — known before this year as Super Bowl Media Day — Osweiler got a few unusual questions. At one point, he was asked who he’d have start at quarterback if he needed to win one game, Manning or John Elway. “Myself,” Osweiler said after very little hesitation, with no further explanation. - - - - - - - Frank Schwab is the editor of Shutdown Corner on Yahoo Sports. Raiders look for short-term lease before long-term home (The Associated Press)

With the Oakland Raiders' hopes of moving to Los Angeles on hold right now, Mayor Libby Schaaf said the team's primary focus is on securing a lease to remain at the Coliseum for the 2016 season. The NFL voted last month to allow the Rams to move to Inglewood with an option for the Chargers to join them.
